I researched and read probably every single review. I was very hesitant in deciding to purchase the Spot On collar due to the cost and due to not wanting to inflict pain on my pup. At any rate when you change fences it should come in at the same active or inactive status of the previous fence. You have to be very careful mot to fat finger anything. Also if you select the wrong fence for the wrong park instead of getting a chance to see the fence and hat you’re inside it before activating it will just come in as active and start shocking the dog before you can react. For example when you’re driving home you should be able to load the home fence and then just activate it once you’re home. This is downright dangerous for the dog and it makes it so you can’t load a fence and have it ready ahead of time. Second when you change fences it automatically comes in active. I know it drains the battery and when I’m done I’ll turn it off. For example when I’m tracking my dog I don’t want a pop up every other minute asking me if I want to stop tracking. There should be more adjustable settings like disabling certain notifications. Works very reliably and is making us and our dog very happy. Great collar and absolutely superior to the Halo collar that I returned. The benefit too is now he gets to go to grannie and papaw's land and get even more run space with the same collar. The collar has changed Joe's life giving him so much more freedom. We have since turned off the static feature and comfortable let him in the yard without concern. He has gotten close, which sends me a notification to my phone that he "has left his HOME area" but quickly returns. He has been tempted with other animals playing outside of his area but has never left. Within a few days he started to venture into his play area and now runs freely outside in the yard. The static feature was barely turned on (level 3) but at first he was concerned to get off the front porch. Once we received the collar I walked Joe around the boundary with the static feature turned on (as he has not really ever been contained in an area without a permanent fence.) He quickly became aware of the warning zones and where he could not go. I was concerned on the effectiveness of the collar without a stable underground fence line but I was happy to find my concerns irrelevant. ![]() Our family is a military family and has been fairly mobile for the last 3 years of Joe's life. Our boy "Joe" is a King Shepard and is currently 3 years old. Is SpotOn waterproof? Can it be used when in the rain/snow or for swimming? Click here for more information on the tech that powers SpotOn. SpotOn includes Forest Mode which improves accuracy in areas with heavy tree cover. SpotOn uses a dual feed antenna that is designed to detect and ignore reflected signals. ![]() Unlike other systems, SpotOn can simultaneously receive and track signals from up to 30 satellites across four navigation satellite constellations including GPS (US), Galileo (European Union), Glonass (Russia), and BeiDou (China). Areas with large objects like buildings, hills, and heavy tree cover can reflect GPS signals, reducing accuracy. GPS systems are more accurate in a large flat open field where there is a clear view of the sky. The more satellites a GPS system can detect the greater the accuracy. GPS satellites are continuously moving across the sky, above and below the horizon. The accuracy of all GPS systems depends upon several factors including the quality of the GPS receiver and antenna, the number of satellites detected, and how much of the sky is in clear view from the ground. As a point of comparison GPS-enabled smartphones are typically accurate only to within 16 feet under open sky and greater than 16 feet near buildings, bridges, and under trees. SpotOn is accurate to three feet under open sky and ten feet under heavy tree cover or near buildings. Will SpotOn work in areas with no cellular service? The annual or semi-annual plans are discounted and come with a 90-day free trial so you can see if cellular works for you. You purchase a cellular subscription for your SpotOn Fence through us. ![]() Receive notifications if your collar battery is low or your dog escapes. ![]() See your dog's location anytime, which is helpful if your fence is large. Cellular enables the SpotOn Fence to communicate with your phone over long distances. With an optional cellular subscription, you can unlock some additional features. With SpotOn Fence, you do not need a cellular subscription to create, manage and activate fences or contain your dog. Just like your old Garmin® navigation system for your car! Unlike your phone, SpotOn Fence can access GPS without a cellular connection. GPS is available anywhere you can see the sky, and it’s free.
